CM Announces 60% Of Honehar Scholarships For Girls In Punjab

CM Announces 60% Of Honahar Scholarships For Girls In Punjab

At the launch ceremony of the CM Honehar Scholarship Program, Maryam Nawaz announced that the government has allocated 60% of the quota for girls and 40% for boys from all applications. This initiative aims to encourage the daughters of Punjab to continue their education and become self-reliant.

Punjab Honehar Scholarship For Girls: 60% Quota

At an inauguration event at Punjab University, where CM Maryam Nawaz gave cheques to the successful students, the initiative was formally launched.

She also launched a Rs130 billion e-portal to make the program easier to access. To make the program easily accessible to students, CM Maryam Nawaz also developed an e-portal. Therefore you can apply for the free scholarship scheme through the Online government portal where you have to fill in the requirements to make sure that you can register directly at their portal.

However, this time the government has increased the number of female students by 60% which means from 30,000 students to 18,000 Quota has been set for girls and the remaining will be given to boys according to their capability. 

Students Selection From All Over Punjab

The Punjab chief minister stated during the occasion that 30,000 of the more than 70,000 students who enrolled in the Honhaar scholarship program were awarded it. Notably, South Punjab accounts for 32% of the chosen pupils.

Every year, 30,000 students from 68 districts have received scholarships under the “Honhaar Scholarship Program.” Scholarships will be awarded to 50 students at public universities and to 131 graduates in 16 major fields.

Free Laptop Scheme: Starting From January 2025

The Free Laptop Scheme, which will be launched in January for all eligible and deserving students who lack access to the necessary technologies to succeed in their studies, was announced by CM during the Launching Ceremony. 

To salvage their careers and ease their families’ financial worries, she also guarantees the students free scholarships to highly successful and esteemed universities.

70,000 Application Receive For Punjab Honehar Scheme

More than 70,000 students have applied for the Honhaar scholarship program, according to the Punjab Higher Education Department. Students from 12 medical colleges, 359 colleges, and 65 universities have submitted applications. The scholarship program was praised by the department as an excellent move by the Chief Minister to encourage higher education.

Eligibility Criteria 

Following are some of the important eligibility requirements for Honehar Scheme:

  • Age Limit: Not be older than 22 years of age on closing date
  • Family Income: The annual income should not exceed INR 2.5 lakh.
  • Residency: Applicants must show proof of residency and be Punjab permanent residents.
  • Selective Universities: In the fall of 2024, the applicant must be enrolled in one or more selected disciplines at one or more selected universities or colleges. The scholarship program will also be open to newly enrolled BDS and MBBS students in 2024.
  • Academic Performance: Minimum FSc./Intermediate marks:
  • Medical Colleges > 80%
  • Top Universities > 80%
  • Public Sector Universities > 75% for Sciences and > 70% for Arts and Social Sciences
  • HED Colleges > 65% for Sciences and > 60% for Arts and Social Sciences
