As the chairperson of the launch ceremony on Wednesday, Punjab’s CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif unveiled the Honhaar Scholarships. Through Pakistan’s premier scholarship program, students have received official disbursements through checks from CM Punjab. The Honhaar Scholarship Program aims to support talented students who face financial barriers in pursuing higher education, enabling them to reach their academic goals at esteemed universities and colleges.

The initiative targets Punjab’s youth below the age of 22 and is specifically catered to families with an annual income of less than Rs. 300,000. The government has allocated a budget of approximately 130 billion for this groundbreaking scheme.

30,000 Scholarships Awarded to Students in 68 Districts

Through the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme, 30,000 deserving students will receive scholarships. It is important to note that 60% of these opportunities are specifically reserved for female students, based on their academic aptitude and financial need.

Out of the 68 districts in Punjab, a total of 30,000 students were chosen to receive scholarship checks. This included 18,000 female students and 12,000 boys.

This project covered the tuition fees and educational expenses of 30,000 students from eligible districts, including those studying at 359 colleges, 12 medical colleges, and 65 universities. Scholarships were generously provided to these deserving students.

Merit-Based Scholarships with No Political Bias

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has emphasized that scholarships will be awarded solely on merit, without any complaints about fairness. Every student, regardless of their university, will be treated equally and without any unfairness or injustice.

According to the Chief Minister, one’s political affiliation – be it PPP, PML-N, or PTI – will not affect their eligibility for scholarships from the government. Discrimination on such grounds will not be tolerated.

Laptop Distribution Scheme in January 2025:

During the initial distribution of Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s laptop program, numerous students received laptops while others were left out. In response to the high demand, a reintroduction of the scheme is planned. In January 2025, the CM Punjab plans to launch a new Free Laptop Initiative for eligible and deserving students who lack access to essential technologies necessary for academic success.

During her speech, Maryam Nawaz Sharif also mentioned the electric bike scheme. She stated that currently, 10,000 electric bikes have been given to students and an additional 20,000 are being prepared for distribution.
